Cisco does support Windows 8.1 with their AnyConnect VPN client.  However, some users may run across the following error message:

CISCO connection error with windows 8 and windows 9 and windows 10


The solution is to change the Cisco AnyConnect client to run in "compatibility mode".  The steps are:

  1. Right click the AnyConnect client by the clock and select Quit
  2. Open Windows Explorer to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Cisco\Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client"

  3. Right click vpnui.exe, Properties, Compatibility tab, and set to use Windows 8
  4. Reboot
