Connectify, a Hotspot creation utility, also includes a feature that is not desirable for the CSU Long Beach WiFi networks. The feature scans the WiFi network that the computer is connected to looking for other Connectify users. This scanning is bad for WiFi network performance.
CSU Long Beach ITS Network Security tools can detect this scanning, and engineers will be taking action to restrict it by blacklisting the device performing the scan.
This feature can easily be disabled by the user. In order for the user to not be at risk of having their computer put onto the blacklist, the following instructions MUST be followed.
Instructions for Disabling Scans
- Open the Connectify Hotspot application.
- Click on the Connectify icon in the upper left corner
- Select Advanced Settings.
- Select Network Peer Scanning to uncheck it.
